Crowley Lake - California
Crowley Lake is located about 15 miles south of Mammoth Lakes. There’s a nice viewpoint right alongside Hwy 395, I stopped to stretch my legs and take a couple photos.
The lake was created in 1941 by the building of a 126-foot high dam by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Trout fishermen love the place as the fishing is fantastic and the surrounding vistas breathtaking; they swarm it on opening day. Crowley Lake Fish Camp is the only way to access the lake and they rent boats, sell supplies and book camping sites at the lake.
Crowley Lake was named after Father John J. Crowley, known as the “Desert Padre.” He was a local hero who helped residents in the Valley make the transition from agriculture to providing goods and services for tourism after it became evident that Los Angeles’s appropriation of the Owens Valley water supply made farming impossible.
It's a beautiful spot to stop and take a breather before heading on your way. You can also look for the Munzee I deployed :-)
