Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m drawn to any type of Trading Post I pass by while travelin’. As in the days past, they’re great places to stop in, spend some time (and usually a few dollars), trade for some local information or latest area news. Rock Shops. I especially like Rock Shops. Squirrel!

And if stopping by to stretch your legs, check out some cool souvenirs and maybe get a soda isn’t enough to lure you away from the 90 mph 40/66, how about this:

What is proclaimed to be the world’s largest petrified tree is located on the grounds of the Geronimo Trading Post!

The massive rock stump on the left is about ten feet tall, with numerous huge chunks lying nearby that are said to have once been part of the ancient tree. I’ve no idea if the claim is true or not, but it’s pretty cool to see such monstrous chunks of petrified wood. I’d pull over just for that!

Teepees and other cool old stuff to check out near the parking area.

The Geronimo Trading Post is located in Arizona, on Route 66, roughly betwixt Joseph City and Holbrook. Exit 280 will get you there.
