Pet Sematery - R.I.P. - Mojave Desert - California

Out in the desert, alongside an abandoned and forgotten railroad siding, there’s a lonesome and long neglected Pet Cemetery. It’s not hidden but it’s easy to miss. Marked by a few remnants of a wood picket fence, the grave markers and crosses share faded memories that whisper through the warm desert wind, telling stories of love and loss beneath the vast sky.

Hard to believe I totally missed this spot on my last trip to this area. Luckily, in doing research for my most recent trip, I saw mention of an abandoned pet cemetery. Just one mention, but it proved true. And what an amazing spot to visit and look at the memorials from pet owners for their beloved pets. Melancholy? Yes. But also a good feeling somehow.

It was definitely worth the research. You never know what you’ll find when your out and about, off the main roads.
